City, Safe and Smart with Technology.

Smart cities should build on the idea that technology must enrich society and the lives of people in ways that are practical.

How to dispose off Li ion batteries and lead acid batteries(Car batteries) :The hazardous waste?

Disposal of lead acid battery in public spaces as well as in common waste bins is hazardous as, these batteries have H2SO4 in them. H2SO4 can react with substances like metals producing heat and fire. A leakage in the battery may cause explosion. So safe disposal of these is necessary.
This idea of safe disposal is to put a separate waste bin for hazardous waste. The bin will have a diluted baking soda liquid. The user could keep the battery on top of the bin; and this will pull it down to, where a solution of baking soda is there.

So that H2SO4 leakages in the battery will neutralize to  carbon di oxide which extinguishes fire

H2SO4(aq) + 2NaHCO3(aq) → Na2SO4(aq) + 2CO2(g) + 2H2O(l)

lead will react with Na2CO3 to form .....

Pb2 + Na2CO3 = Pb(Na2CO3)2   which is not harmful...

  •   Use of night surveillance drones and buzzers for safety of woman in night hours.   (N1)

We can show a small prototype of drone and explain its purpose. The drones may be used to  capture images and footage of any violence happening in the city and even caution the nearest cops. It can be activated with sound vibrations that needs to be configured to detract high frequency voice and vibrations which in that case should be made foolproof with  other noises with the help of advanced coding technique. This drones should also be activated with emergency switches kept in public spaces in the city. Pressing this switch without valid reasons should yield him deserved punishments. With image processing this can also be used to catch the thief or a person involved in an anti social activity, the drone can move faster than the person if running(even if face is covered) and inform cops or even wirelessly communicate this information to near by drone securities. We can even keep the drones charging in day time with solar sustainable power.
  • Cleaner city with peso power, a disease free environment                (N2)

Peso electricity can be used to generate voltage from the force applied by vehicles and trespassers on roads. This power could support the cleaning bots on roads and paths when ever there is less traffic, this should be done with a little artificial intelligence as the cleaning bots should not disrupt the normal traffic. Sensors should be kept at certain points on roads so that it ensures no traffic then. May be an alternate pathway be kept for emergencies. The programmer should ensure that minimum time is consumed for cleaning process.
  • Rooftop Ropeways for emergency exit and fire fighting bots
Ropeways could be installed for every big buildings to a certain safe distance so that an emergency or fire rescue will be easy for insiders. Firefighting bots should be installed in every floor of a big building which takes care of the smoke and fire in the building.

  • Wireless powering technology could power public displays and even vehicles and mobile antinnas.

Researchers from North Carolina State University have developed new technology and techniques for transmitting power wirelessly from a stationary source to a mobile receiver – moving engineers closer to their goal of creating highway "stations" that can recharge electric vehicles wirelessly as the vehicles drive by.

The researchers developed a series of segmented transmitter coils, each of which broadcasts a low-level electromagnetic field. The researchers also created a receiver coil that is the same size as each of the transmitter coils, and which can be placed in a car or other mobile platform. The size of the coils is important, because coils of the same size transfer energy more efficiently.
The researchers modified the receiver so that when it comes into range and couples with a transmitter coil, that specific transmitter coil automatically increases its current – boosting its magnetic field strength and the related transfer of energy by 400 percent. The transmitter coil's current returns to normal levels when the receiver passes out of the range of the transmitter.

  • License Plate Detectors And CCTV Cameras
License Plate Detractors could be installed in certain roads so that a database of the vehicles passed in the city could be maintained. A vehicle without License Plate could be kept under surveillance and proper measures can be taken as required. CCTV cameras with speed dectactors to catch overspend and rash drivers.

"Automatic number-plate recognition is a technology that uses optical character recognition on images to read vehicle registration plates to create vehicle location data. It can use existing closed-circuit television, road-rule enforcement cameras, or cameras specifically designed for the task. ANPR is used by police forces around the world for law enforcement purposes, including to check if a vehicle is registered or licensed. It is also used for electronic toll collection on pay-per-use roads and as a method of cataloging the movements of traffic, for example by highways agencies."

  • Automatic Vehicle Location system with GPS
AVL should be embedded in vehicles with the vehicle number as the unique identifier so that last location of the vehicles can be traced with GPS technology into a database. This can reduce crime scenes in vehicles to a large extent. These databases should be managed by an independent agency which shall never get influenced by a political party or lead to any personal grudge undertaking by any person in the country.

  • Toll Swipe and Go

Automatic swiping system on tolls instead of manually collecting the amount from the driver saves time and fuel. Digital swiping transactions could be made at toll points using card readers.

  • Small dynamic kiosk (Open access cuble) with touch screen display for inquiry
Here people could get information about the tourists places the road map, restaurants schools,Traffic ,weather ,local news, etc..
It could be implemented either by a tab/phone app model or a prototype. One should explain things or put some placards there by.

The average person spends 60 hours in traffic each year; a traffic reroute apps in the kiosk calculate the best route for each driver to speed up traffic flow and reduce CO2 emissions. They also ensure that a traffic jam on one boulevard doesn't just get displaced to another area.
  • Bike/cycle sharing techniques
They could be used by people and tourists for having a ride into the city. There could be a multi storied building in each cluster within the city to keep cars(taxied) cycles or bikes via lift technology so it saves area taken in the city.                    see this ..

Japan's Automated Eco Cycle Parks Bikes Underground

  .....................Ideas meant to be shared............

Something else would be to have a separate bicycle network connecting main city centers to reduce accidents.(maybe each cluster will have an interconnecting flyovers and in that we incorporate it)
